Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.
